Engineering Geology

Research in Engineering Geology covers all aspects of experimental and computer-aided rock mechanics with a strong focus on applied topics. From underground excavation, fracture propagation, induced seismicity, slope stability and landslide dynamics to repositories and dam construction. Our research deals with many topics of high social relevance and at various levels.

Hydrogeology

Our research focuses on the assessment of available groundwater resources with hydrogeological and numerical modeling tools and on the protection of the groundwater resource. We always consider groundwater as part of an open natural system that absorbs substances such as arsenic and uranium from rocks, but also anthropogenic changes, e.g. through nitrate. Our research projects often cover a wide range of questions from the region, but also with research partners from Mexico and Indonesia.
