Due to their good solubility the two rock forming carbonates, calcite and dolomite, as karstic aquifers, are an essential source of potable water around the globe. Because their geology and hydrogeology is usually characterized by a thin vadose zone and a rapid groundwater flow, these aquifers are mainly prone for all kind of human pollution. Especially dissolved and particular pollutants induced in urban areas can be transported fast and far in karstic groundwaters. In this context the thesis examines the influence of anthropogenically induced pollutants on the solubility of three different carbonatic rocks. It focusses on the question, if divalent metallic cations accelerate or decelerate carbonate dissolution, and if this could have an significant influence in natural karstic systems. In addition elevated concentrations of nitrate and DOC are examined, as they can regularly be found in agriculturally influenced areas.
