Michael Altenbockum appointed honorary professor
The Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering at RWTH Aachen has awarded Michael Altenbockum the honorary professorship. It honours one of the leading geoscientists in the field of contaminated site remediation for his outstanding achievements in professional practice in the application and development of scientific findings and methods. As co-publisher of the "Handbuch Altlastensanierung und Flächenmanagement" (Handbook on the Remediation of Contaminated Sites and Land Management), he has for many years contributed to winning over contributions from practice and research at a scientific level for the entire body of work and constantly adapting it to technical developments. Over the past few years, he has been involved to an above-average degree in university teaching for the part-time lecturer and has taught more than 300 students about contaminated site management and groundwater remediation in around 700 hours. With regular field exercises in the East Tyrolean Alps, he contributes to research-oriented learning at RWTH Aachen. He is the initiator and organiser of the event format "Soil and groundwater - job profiles of the future", which serves to build networks between specialist practice, universities and students and to promote young talent. The LIH team congratulates him on receiving the honorary professorship.
